On Saturday we went north on the island, to see beaches and forests. It was a beautiful sunny day. I can't really describe the beauty of the island, but I hope the photos kind of give an impression.

Sunday we went to Victoria, this is on the south of the island. Victoria is a small city, bigger then Nanaimo and it has beautiful big houses, harbors with huge boats and very nice beaches and parks. You can see the USA from the most southern part. We didn't go to the BC museum, because we didn't really have time. But we did see and hear the Dutch Carillion. On our way to Victoria we passed by Chemanius. This town has a lot of murals.

I have had some typical Canadian food. On Friday Tami and I got a Nanaimo bar. This is a 3 layered cake. The bottom layer is chocolate with cereal and nuts in it. The second layer is custard, cream and icing sugar. The top layer is chocolate. It’s very sweet.

On Saturday I had Poutine. This is another typical Canadian food, from the Quebec region, but they serve it everywere. Poutine is French fries, with gravy and cheese curds. It’s pretty tasty. And ofcourse I had local caught salmon, from the barbeque. When I asked my friends about typical Canadian food they stated that everything is Canadian. They eat Italian, but with a Canadian twist, so Canadian Italian, same for Canadian Chinese and Canadian Mexican. So basically all the food I ate in Canada is typical Canadian food.

Today it’s Monday, and time to say goodbye to my friends. I’m taking the ferry to Vancouver today, so I have a chance to walk around Vancouver for a couple hours. I’ll spend the night in a hotel in Vancouver and tomorrow take the sky train from the hotel to Vancouver airport. I had a really great time here. The island is beautiful and there is so much you can do. If I ever have the opportunity to come back I certainly will.

Zaterdag zijn we richting het noorden van het eiland gegaan, om bossen en stranden te bekijken. Het was een hele mooie zonnige dag. Ik kan de schoonheid van het eiland moeilijk beschrijven, maar ik hoop dat de foto’s een idee geven.

Zondag zijn we naar Victoria gegaan. Deze stad light in het zuiden van het eiland, en is groter dan Nanaimo. Het is een rijk gebied, met grote huizen, havens met grote boten en schepen en mooie stranden en parken. Vanaf het meest zuidelijke gebied kun je de USA zien. We zijn niet naar het BC museum gegaan want daar was geen tijd voor. Maar we hebben wel het Nederlandse Carillon gezien en horen spelen. Op onze toch naar Victoria zijn we door Chemanius gereden. Dit dorp heeft een heleboel muurschilderingen.

Ik heb natuurlijk typische canadees eten gegeten. Op vrijdag hebben Tami en ik een Nanaimo bar gedeeld. Dit is een drie lagen cake, de onderste laag is chocolade, suiker, noten en granen. De middelste is custard, suiker, en slagroom, en de bovenste laag is chocolade. Het is echt heel erg zoet.

Zaterdag heb ik Poutine gegeten. Dit is iets anders typische canadees, uit de Quebec regio. Maar ze hebben het overal in Canada. Poutine is frietjes, met jus en blokjes kaas. Het is best lekker. En natuurlijk heb ik lokaal gevangen zalm gegeten, gebarbecued. Toen ik mijn vrienden vroeg wat typisch canadees eten was was het antwoord dat alles canadees was. Ze eten Italiaans, maar met een canadees tintje, dus canadees Italiaans. En hetzelfde geld voor canadees chinees, en canadees Mexicaans. Dus eigenlijk is alles wat ik in canada gegeten heb typisch canadees eten.

Vandaag is het maandag en tijd om mijn vrienden vaarwel te zeggen. Ik neem vandaag de veerboot naar Vancouver zodat ik ook nog de tijd heb om die stad te zien. Ik blijf in een hotel slapen en neem morgen de Sky train naar het vliegveld van Vancouver. Ik heb het echt heel goed gehad hier. Het eiland is erg mooi en er is zoveel dat je kan doen. Als ik ooit de kans krijg om terug te gaan dan zal ik dat zeker doen.
