This morning I took a bus from the hotel to the Tsawwassen Ferry. This ferry took me in about 2 hours to BC Island. First impression of Vancouver and BC Island: they look very Scandinavian not very American. It’s very green, hilly, mountains around. The ferry arrived at the island around 12. Christine and Tami were waiting for me at the Duke Point ferry terminal. From there it was about a 20 minute drive to Nanaimo. We walked around downtown Nanaimo for some time. We walked passed and through some parks, along the water line. Here is a dock for floatplanes. These fly from the main land to the Island. We had lunch and after this went to Tami’s house. We dropped my stuff and went to Christine's house. Here we sat out in the garden in the sun and talked a lot. Denise came to Christine’s house too. She worked till 4 at a spa. Around 7 we went back to Tami’s house. We got food on our way and Tami made dinner.

Tomorrow morning we’ll go see a museum and the bastion. The Bastion is the oldest remaining building on the island. It was part of fortifications, to protect the coal mines on the island. In the afternoon we are going to a kind of party at Christine’s house. A lot of Christine’s friends come to her house every Friday and they have some drinks and food.

The plan is to go to Victoria, on the south of the Island, on Saturday or Sunday and to the north on the other day. On Monday we will probably go to Vancouver and then I’ll stay there so I have enough time to get to the airport on Tuesday and to see something of Vancouver. It always takes about 2 hours to get from the island to the mainland, and the ferry only goes every 2 hours. From the ferry terminal it is another hour to the airport.

Vanochtend heb ik de bus genomen vanaf het hotel naar de Tsawwassen ferry terminal. De ferry doet er ongeveer 2 uur over om bij BC Island te komen. Eerste indrukken van Vancouver: het lijkt erg op Scandinavië, en helemaal niet Amerikaans. Het is erg groen, heuvelachtig, bergen rondom. De ferry kwam rond 12 uur aan bij het eiland. Christine en Tami stonden op me te wachten bij de Duke Point ferry terminal. Vanaf daar het was ongeveer 20 minuten rijden naar Nanaimo. We hebben door Nanaimo gelopen. Onze tocht liep langs en door een aantal parken, langs het water. Aan het water is een haven voor watervliegtuigen. Deze vliegen vanaf het vaste land naar het eiland. Na de lunch zijn we naar Tami’s huis gegaan om mijn spullen te droppen. Daarna zijn we naar Christine’s huis gegaan. Daar hebben we in de tuin in de zon gezeten en een hoop gepraat. Denise was ondertussen ook naar Christine’s huis gekomen. Zij werkte bij een spa, tot ongeveer 4 uur. Rond 7 uur zijn we weer naar Tami’s huis gegaan. Onderweg hebben we eten gehaald en Tami heeft avond eten gemaakt.

Morgen ochtend gaan we naar een museum en het Bastion. Het Bastion is het oudste overgebleven gebouw op het eiland en het was onderdeel van de fortificaties. Deze waren gebouwd om de kolen mijnen te beschermen. In de middag gaan we naar Christine’s huis. Veel van Christine’s vriendinnen komen elke vrijdag naar haar huis en dan eten en drinken ze samen en hebben en gezellige avond.

Het plan is om zaterdag of zondag naar Victoria te gaan, in het zuiden van het eiland. En de andere dag gaan we naar het noorden. Maandag gaan we waarschijnlijk naar Vancouver en dan blijf ik daar zodat ik dinsdag op tijd op het vliegveld kan zijn en ook tijd heb om vancouver te zien. Het kost altijd 2 uur om bij het vaste land te komen en de ferry gaat maar eens in de 2 uur. En vanaf de terminal kost het een uur om bij het vliegveld te komen.
