Yesterday we went to Washington DC. I went with Edward, because Hannah was too sick to join. She stayed home slept, with her two cats keeping her company. It was about a 1,5 hour drive from Wilmington to Washington DC, the US capitol. Edward went to university at the Catholic University of America, in Washington DC, so he knew his way around. We parked at the Catholic University and went to the largest Roman Catholic Church in the western hemisphere, and the 8 largest religious building in the world. It was huge, and had really nice murals, and marble flooring. There were several little shrines, and two large churches within it. One church is in the crypt and one in the main church. It was built in the 1950's.

After the church we walked to the metro station at the university. From there we took the metro to Union station, to start without big tour around all the tourist attractions in DC. We first walked to the Capitol building, and from there down the Mall towards the Washington monument. The Mall is a large park and several streets going from the Capitol building all the way down to the Lincon Memorial, with the Washington Monument in between. This part of the city has been completely planned. Around the Mall are the buildings of the Smithsonian Institute. Most of these are free museums. Edward and I wanted to go to the Air and space museum, but the X-ray machine didn't like the knife he had in his backpack. We would first have to go back to put that in the car, before we could enter in that museum. So we first walked to the sculpture garden, and from there we tried to find a postal office, so Edward could mail the knife back to him. When we couldn't find one, we walked to Metro Central station, and took the Metro back to Catholic university to put the knife in the car.

By now it was lunch time so we went to a restaurant close to the university. Edward often went there when he was still a student at the university. After that we went back to the metro and walked from metro central to the White house. We made some pictures in front, and it looks smaller in real compared to the Hollywood movies. From the White house we walked to the Washington Monument, and from there to the Tidal Basin. Around the Tidal Basin are a lot of cherry trees. They were a gift from Japan, a lot of years ago. And every year there is a special Cherry Blossom festival, basically to celebrate spring. This festival started this day. We talked to a park ranger and he told us that this was the first day the cherry trees actually blossomed. The sun had been shining all day and although it was a little bit cold, it was very nice. Edward got sunburn and it really felt like it was spring.

After the Cherry Blossom festival we went out for Dinner. For this we went to Dupont Square. Dupont square has a lot of restaurants, embassies, and very expensive houses. We went to a Mexican restaurant, together with a good friend of Edward and her boyfriend. After dinner we walked to their apartment, and went out to get some Ice cream for dessert. She droves us back to the university and Edward drove us home. We were back at Hannahs house around 11:30 pm. I had a very good night sleep, without getting attacked by cats. Today Hannah and I are going to Philadelphia.

Gister gingen we naar Washington DC, de hoofdstad van de verenigde staten. Ik ben samen met edward gegaan, want hannah was te ziek om mee te gaan. Ze is thuis gebleven om te slapen, en haar tween katten hebben haar gezelschap gehouden. Washington DC is ongeveer 1,5 uur rijden vanaf Hannah’s huis. Edward heeft of de Katholieke universiteit van de Veringde staten in Washington DC gezeten, dus hij wist de weg. We parkeerde bij de universiteit en zijn de grootste rooms katholieke kerk van het westelijk halfrond gaan bekijken. Het is ook het op 8 na grootste religeuze gebouw in de wereld. Hij was echt heel groot, en had mooie muur en plafond schilderingen en marmeren vloeren. Er waren verschillende kleine kapellen en twee grote kerekn, een in de crypte en een in de grote kerk. De kerk is gebouwd in de jaren 50.

Na de kerk zijn we naar het metro station gelopen, en vanuit daar naar het centrum van Washington gegaan. We zijn uitgestapt op Union station en naar het Capitool gelopen. En vanaf daar naar beneden richting het Washington monument. Vanaf het capitool gebouw loopt een groot park helemaal naar het Lincon Memorial gebouw, met het washington monument er tussenin. Dit is allemaal zo uitgedacht en van de grond af opgebouwd. Dit park en de wegen eromheen heten de Mall, en erom heen staan de gebouwen van het Smithsonian instituut. De meeste gebouwen zijn gratis museums. Edward en ik wouden naar het Air and Space museum, maar het rontgen apparaat vond het mes dat edward in zijn tas niet zo leuk. We moesten dat eerst terug naar de auto brengen voordat we het museaum in mochten. Toen zijn we eerst maar naar een beelden tuin gegaan en vanuit daar de stad ingelopen om een post kantoor te zoeken zodat edward het mes aan zichzelf kon terug sturen. Omdat we er geen konden vinden zijn we toen maar naar Metro Centrl station gelopen en vanuit daar terug gegaan naar de universiteit om het mes op te bergen.

Ondertussen was het lunch tijd en zijn we in de buurt van de universiteit gaan eten bij een restaurant waar edward regelmatig kwam toen hij nog student was. Daarna zijn we terug gelopen naar de metro en terug gegaan naar Metro central. Vanaf at metro station was het een stukje lopen naar het witte huis. We hebben daar wat foto’s genomen, maar in het echt lijkt het kleiner dan in alle films. Vanaf het witte huis zijn we naar het Washington monument gelopen en vanut daar doorgelopen naar het Tidal Basin. Rond om dit water staan allemaal kersen bomen. Japan heeft deze bomen een heleboel jaar geleden geschonken, en elk jaar is er een festival om het bloeien van de kersen bomen te vieren, het Cherry blossom Festival. Het was de eerste dag de de bomen in bloei stonden en het was erg mooi om te zien. De zon had de hele dag geschenen, en het voelde echt als lente. Edward was zelfs verbrand.

Na het Cherry blossom festival zijn we naar Dupont Square gegaan voor dinner. Dupont square is een hele diverse, kleurijke, hippe wijk, met ambassades, veel verschillende restaurants vanuit de hele wereld, en peperdure huizen. We zijn gaan eten bij een mexicaans restaurant met een goede vriendin van edward en haar vriend. Daarna zijn we hun appartement gaan bekijken, wat op loop afstand lag. En na een ijsje als dessert heeft zij ons naar de auto gebracht en heeft edward ons naar huis gereden. Rond half twaalf waren we terug in hannahs appartement. Ik heb erg goed geslapen, zonder aangevallen te worden katten. Vandaag gaan Hannah en ik naar Philadelphia.
